Il Mondo di Adriano

GEPPO IL FOLLE

1978

Script:
Geppo is a successful singer, idolized in Italy and also famous in Europe, but wants to become famous also in America where his idol lives, Barbra Streisand, the only one in the world which he considers to his height. But he doesn’t know English. So he turns to a comely English teacher, Gilda, which gives some lessons. Whenever Geppo comes at the lessons, female students literally fall at his feet; only Gilda seems to resist.
In the meantime he attracts the antipathy of three young people trying to kill him.
He wins the heart of the Gilda, which in reality has always felt something for him and she would like that he left for America. But Geppo…
“With Geppo Il Folle, Adriano ventures in freedom a flaming colossal in tune with the advanced frontier of the musical. Grease by Randall Kleiser and Hair by Milos Forman, and Geppo Il Folle are all dated 1978, and share the same lysergic instincts.
Geppo, hallucinatory alter ego of Adriano, is pursued by an army of fans, who in reality really chase him in the course of his career, lovely and scary. The “extras” in the movie, twenty thousand, even pay to participate in the live concert held at the stadium in Novara, where Adriano-Geppo is expected by his reference artists, first of all, Barbra Streisand, the most beloved.
Directed by his very special teacher, he sings Happy to be Dancing with You and Stay a Little Bit Longer, and Gilda/Claudia tries to ideally reassemble Geppo and Adriano in a single device of folly and wisdom. But the “crazy” will always be “double” – in one body, there is… So in Che cosa ti farei e Sei proprio tu, the movie’s soundtrack released on the album of the same name, he returns to the warm and sensual interpretation. The choir, which crosses the disk with its sighs and sobs in tribute to the Bee Gees, withdraw to make room for vocal modulations of Adriano, in perfect duet with Barbra Streisand, far and near.
